How to Make a Cupcake Stand / Serving Platter
DIY Halloween Cupcake Stand
Having a Halloween Party or looking to update your Halloween decor around the house? Why not make a cupcake stand or raised platter for under $10? Use it as a Halloween candy dish every day or at parties it is perfect size for appetizers or desserts. Here I’ve written a step-by-step DIY tutorial on how to make your platter for any occasion, just change the plate theme and base color to fit your project needs!
Supplies
E6000 Adhesive
Fun Plate
Glass Candlestick Holder
Primer
Paint
Sealer
Step # 1- Protect your work surface from paint residue using cardboard and gather all of your materials.
Step # 2 Apply spray primer to your glass surface. Make sure you are working in the right temperature conditions and primer rated for a glass application. Make sure you apply coat lightly as the glass will be slick and paint drips can easily form on your surface. It’s also a good idea to turn your candlestick upside down so that you are covering the underside of the rim which is hard to reach when it is right side up.
Step # 3 Once the primer has dried apply paint in a coordinating color of your choice. When I use vintage plates I try to find my paint color in a satin finish. When using shiny new plates I like to use a gloss paint to give the piece a cohesive look. Again turn candlestick upside down to ensure full coverage.
Step # 4 Go ahead and thoroughly clean your plate front and back. Once the paint has fully dried on your candlestick place the plate upside down on your work surface. Apply a bead of E6000 adhesive around the rim of your painted candlestick and set down on the center of the back of the plate. Try not to move your candlestick if you can, as paint can smear onto the back of the plate.
Step #5 Now it will take several hours for the glue to fully cure, so leave your project alone to dry! Now you have a completed cake stand/platter to use for decorating around your home, so take some time and think of all the creative things you can do with your new platter. I like to get multiples of matching plates, and use candlesticks of all different sizes to vary my Halloween Party appetizer presentation!
